Black Goose Grill: At now-thriving plaza, a new eatery

SHARON — Longtime restaurant operator and Sharon resident Robert Caeners has opened The Black Goose Grill in the shopping plaza. Caeners who considers himself a “restaurant lifer” has managed restaurants and catering facilities his entire career. The Black Goose Grill is designed as a family friendly restaurant that will use fresh local ingredients as much as possible. While the menu will change based on availability of ingredients, the opening day menu included items such as Gay Street Steak (marinated skirt steak sliced over greens with dried cranberries, candied pecans, gorgonzola and choice of dressing for $9.95); the Plaza Salad (baby spinach with onions, candied pecans, tomato, warm goat cheese, homemade croutons and champagne vinaigrette for $7.95); Not Your Mamma’s Meatloaf (with onions, mushrooms and melted mozzarella cheese over the top, with fries or coleslaw, for $9.95); Caesar Chicken Wrap (choose a whole wheat or plain wrap, for $7.50) and the Sharon Central (flank steak with onions, mushrooms and melted mozzarella — or as an open-faced sandwich with gravy and mushrooms for $8.50).Waitress Terri Mohring said that on opening day, after festive balloons were put outside, customers started coming in and there was a steady stream all day.One feature of the new restaurant is a self-serve area near the front door for take-out coffee, tea and morning pastries.Caeners said he wants the Black Goose Grill to be customer friendly, “a place to visit or convenient for take-out.” The entire menu is available to take out.The Black Goose Grill is closed on Mondays, open Tuesdays 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For information or to place take-out orders, call 860-397-5195.
