Lombard Ford goes to the dogs
BARKHAMSTED — The Little Guild of West Cornwall held a pet adoption event at Lombard Ford in Barkhamsted on Saturday, July 30. The store’s showroom was filled with more than 15 dogs and a few cats, all up for adoption. Dogs included Tigger, a boxer mix fostered by volunteer Carrie Taylor, and Jake, an Alaskan malamute fostered with Denise Cohn, executive director of Little Guild. “We always encourage people to adopt pets instead of buying them,” Cohn said. “The organization appreciates Lombard Ford for allowing us to hold this event here. Adoption events like this help to get the word out. It also helps to get the dogs out of the shelter.” Rob Lombard, owner of Lombard Ford, said he was more than happy to help the organization. “I have always been a pet person,” Lombard said. “Almost everyone loves pets. It’s amazing how so very few people don’t like them.” Stray and abandoned dogs and cats are referred to the Little Guild by Litchfield County’s animal control officers. The shelter keeps the animals until homes are found for them. The organization screens potential owners before they can officially adopt an animal.
