Joyce (Franchek) Sciepura

SHARON — Joyce (Franchek) Sciepura, 75, died quietly at her home July 30, 2011, after a long illness. Joyce was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Dec. 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Catherine (Benza) and John Franchek.After working for the Legal Aid Society of White Plains for more than 20 years, she retired to Sharon to be near her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her beloved dog, Teddy. Joyce enjoyed going to the many churches and tag sales in the area and was an avid supporter of the Sharon Fire Department’s pancake breakfasts. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and her outspoken personality. Joyce is survived by her loving children, Victoria Morse and her husband, Bruce, Christina Riley and her husband, Bill, Michael Sciepura Jr. and John Sciepura and his wife, Margaret; her three cherished grandchildren, Flynn Nixon and Grace and Hope Morse; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Jack.Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Guild of St. Francis in West Cornwall or the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are under the care of the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon.

Water main cleaning in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN – Aquarion Water Company today announced a water main cleaning project in the company’s North Canaan system. Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.

Cabaret comes to St. Andrew's in Kent

Music in the Nave will again tap into local talent April 6 at 7 p.m. when its features George Potts in an intimate cabaret concert in the St. Andrew’s Church parish house.

Pott is a well-known figure in the community, both through his presence in the perennially popular Fife ‘n Drum, the restaurant started by his father-in-law, renowned pianist Dolph Trayman, and through his own career as a folk musician.
