Four injured in car accident

NORTH CANAAN — Four Salisbury residents were injured this week after a late Sunday night accident on Route 44 in North Canaan. According to police, Ryan Diamond, 22, was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee west, near the intersection of Old Turnpike Road South at about 11 p.m., when the car drifted off the right side of the road. Diamond attempted to regain control. The Jeep veered back across both travel lanes. It hit a large tree.Diamond and passenger Kevin Cantele, 20, were flown by Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital, according to police. Diamond had a broken femur. Passenger Kevin Diamond, 20, sustained a broken left arm. Another passenger, Christopher Bellanca, 20, had a fractured left ankle. Both were taken to Sharon Hospital. A source close to the family said Tuesday morning all four were recovering. As word of the accident spread, the families were offered support from the community, often in the form of postings on Facebook.Dean Diamond, father of two of the young men, owns Deano’s Pizza in Lakeville, where calls from concerned friends and customers came in throughout the day Monday. Diamond asked that The Journal let everyone know how grateful and appreciative the family is for the thoughts, prayers and offers of help. NORFOLK — Robert J. Pallone, 69, of Perkins St. passed away April 12, 2024, at St. Vincent Medical Center. He was a loving, eccentric CPA. He was kind and compassionate. If you ever needed anything, Bob would be right there. He touched many lives and even saved one.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.
