Blue and Gold basketball at Housy

FALLS VILLAGE — As part of the Blue and Gold summer sports program, Housatonic Valley Regional High School (HVRHS) hosted a basketball camp for students who will enter grades five to nine in the fall. The week-long camp ended on July 8. Eight students participated, from Cornwall, Sharon, New York City and Sheffield, Mass.This year’s girls and boys basketball camps are finished for the summer and football camp ends July 15. A boys wrestling camp runs from July 25 to 29, coached by Tom Medonis. HVRHS senior Wilson Terrall served as a coaching assistant for the basektball camp, which was run by the high school’s athletic director, Dan Carroll. Terrall is an all-around athlete who is on the school’s baseball, basketball and soccer teams. On the last day of camp, participants were presented with ribbons and trophies.One benefit of taking part in the Blue and Gold camps, Carroll said, is that each camp is lead by Housatonic’s head coach for that sport. On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
