Winsted launching its own farmers market

WINSTED — The first ever Winsted Farmers Market will open today, July 8, at East End Park from 4 to 7 p.m.Market organizer Patrick Barrett said that, while there were other markets in nearby towns, there is a need for a local market in Winsted.“There is a population density here in town that can benefit in getting fresh fruits and vegetables without having to drive to other communities,” Barrett said. “There are people in Winsted, including the senior population, who do not have a car or access to these other towns.”Barrett said that some of the vendors at the market will include Eaglewood Farm from Barkhamsted, George Hall Farms from Simsbury and Collinsville Bakery from New Hartford.“We are still working on getting other vendors,” Barrett said. “I think the town will really be excited about this.”Barrett promises a wide selection of farm grown fruits, vegetables, breads and pastries. The market is scheduled to operate every Friday until Aug. 26.For more information, contact Barrett at patrick@winstedfarmersmarket.org
