Amateur radio groups have a Field Day
WINCHESTER CENTER — Two local amateur radio groups, the Wireless Operators of Winsted (WOW) and the CQ Radio Club of Torrington, held their annual Field Day at the Winchester Center Firehouse on Saturday, June 25.Members of both radio clubs, pictured here, set up their amateur radio equipment and broadcast throughout the day and night to other radio operators around the world who were also participating in the event. “Even though we have the Internet now, amateur radio is still needed in today’s world,” WOW President Dana Borgman said. “Just recently, 911 service was interrupted in an area in Nebraska, so they called on amateur radio operators to pick up the slack.” Borgman said WOW is always looking for more members.
