Harry A. Gerowe Sr.

KENT — Harry A. Gerowe Sr., 80, of Brookfield, Conn., passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on June 10, 2011. Harry was a licensed lay minister, working part-time for more than a decade as the coordinator of membership care and involvement at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, where he and his wife, Evelyn, had been members since 1962. Harry married Evelyn in 1955 in Trumbull, Conn. She survives at home. He was a resident of the town of Brookfield for 50 years, where he served as a police commissioner from 1990 to 1999, as well as serving on the town zoning board. He was an active member of the Brookfield Jaycees, where he served as president in the 1960s. As a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, Harry was a part of the peacekeeping force in Germany after World War II. He was the best dad and grandpa in the world. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Dr. Catherine E. Winkler and her husband, Howard, of Newtown, Conn., Harry A. Gerowe Jr. and his wife, Rachel, of Woodbury, Conn., and Robert C. Gerowe and his wife, Heather, of Kent; and six grandchildren,Katie and Dan Winkler, Nathan and Margaret Gerowe and Ben and Spencer Gerowe.A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 10, at 6 p.m. at the Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congregational Church of Brookfield, 160 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT 06804; or Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810. Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
