Housatonic student of the week
The Lakeville Journal congratulates the honorees of the student of the week program at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. When he earned the title of Mr. Housatonic a few weeks ago, Riley Lynch set himself apart from the rest of the contestants in the competition by virtue of his charm and talent. Not only did he demonstrate impressive vocal range by performing the female part of a duet from “High School Musical 3,” but he also effectively bribed the judges with his homemade organic apple pie.But who is the young man behind the moniker? Who is Mr. Housatonic?Offstage, Riley embodies the high school culture. He participates in everything from athletics to academic clubs to student government, and he is a leader in each area: he is heavily involved with soccer, and has participated on the varsity basketball and track teams; he is an editor of The Northwest Corner, our school newspaper, and Acorn, our literary journal; most publicly, he is one of the student representatives to the Region One Board of Education. In short, Mr. Housatonic takes advantage of all that Housatonic has to offer. That included the recent trip to China, which Riley described as “unbelievable.” It was his first extended trip outside of the United States, and he will take the memories and experience with him to the University of Connecticut in the fall as a participant in their honors program. He is undecided about his area of study, but his versatility and curiosity prepare him for whatever field he enters. To be sure, he may enter the culinary field; he certainly makes a mean apple pie.
