Fishing Derby makes a splash

AMENIA —The Amenia Lions Club hosted its annual Fishing Derby at Ralph Vinchiarello’s pond on Mygatt Road on Saturday, May 21. Attendance was high and spirits even higher. The children who participated raced to the tables set up by volunteers to have their catches measured; below are the results from the day.

First Fish Caught

Honorable Mention to Dylan Turner, 7, of Pleasant Valley

Up to age 4 Biggest Fish  

First place —  Danica Turner,  3, of Pleasant Valley, 9-inch fish

Second place — All caught 7-inch fish: Kellie Eisermann, 2,  of Millerton; Tarance Vinchiarello,  4, of Amenia; and Lucas Vallely, 3, of Wassaic

 Third place —  Both caught 6.5-inch fish: Madeline Wesley, 3, of Millerton; and Lexi Barlett, 3, of Amenia          

5- to 9-year-olds Biggest Fish

First place — Kristiana Wilson  8, of Pine Plains, 10-inch fish

Second  place — Both with 9- inch fish: Hunter Breyette, 5, of Millerton; and Perrin Kirby, 5, of Amenia

Third place — Both with 8.5-inch fish: Dylan Turner, 7, of Pleasant Valley; and Andrew Schultz, 8, of Dover

10- to 13-year-olds  Biggest Fish

First place — Andrew Nethercott, 12, of Amenia, 10-inch fish

Most Fish for the Day Trophy  — Kristiana Wilson with a total of 23

Community support

Freshtown donated the hot dogs, chips and beverages and  Amenia Archery donated the worms.

Ralph Vinchiarello donated the use of his property.

Lions Club members volunteered their time and energy.
