Organist Roberts to perform
TORRINGTON — Internationally recognized organist Stephen Roberts has been invited to perform for the Trinity Arts Series’ sixth annual Memorial Organ Concert Sunday, May 22, 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. Admission is free.Roberts is professor of organ at Western Connecticut State University, director of music at St. Peter Church, and for 12 years was director of music at the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. He has performed at venues around the world including in Vienna, St. Petersburg, Venice, Paris, Rome and Buenos Aires. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Oklahoma, Roberts received a Fulbright grant to study organ and harpsichord in Vienna. He was the first student to be admitted to the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University, where he was the recipient of several prizes and awards, including the acclaimed Bozyan Prize in organ.His performances have been featured on radio and television and he has been a lecturer and performer at the American Guild of Organists conventions. Roberts’ students have also won many prizes and competitions in the United States and abroad.
