Walk-a-thon for local food pantries
ANCRAM — The inaugural Doshin’s Awakened Heart Walk-a-Thon will be held Saturday, May 7, at Lake Taghkanic State Park. Its goal is to raise funds to support local food pantries and to distribute local scholarships.Doshin’s Awakened Heart is a nonprofit corporation, based in Tivoli, dedicated to nourishing the body, mind and spirit of other surrounding community through the support of food pantries (10 food pantries in northern Dutchess, Ulster, Greene and Columbia counties) and scholarship funds as well as by providing classes, retreats, lectures and events that support spiritual growth and fellowship.“The time is now for members of our global and regional communities to come together as a collective to bring about change,” states the group on its website, www.doshinsawakenedheart.com. “Through our hopes, dreams, prayers and actions we can begin to change the lives of many of our young who suffer the stresses of poverty.”There are two loops to walk for the walk-a-thon: One is 2.5-miles long and the other is 1.5.
