NCES student among top in state

NORTH CANAAN — It was a busy couple of days for Ashlee Baldwin. On the evenings of March 31 and April 1, the seventh-grader performed in the North Canaan Elementary School Drama Club production. In between, she headed to Southern Connecticut State University to compete in the state level of the National Geographic Bee.She did well in the first elimination round, but like her counterpart from Cornwall Consolidated School, Malcolm Scott, did not quite make it to the top 10 and so did not move into the final round.Ashlee’s dad, Lee Baldwin, accompanied her to the New Britain campus, and reported that she had a great time and enjoyed the challenges of the competition. “She is very proud that she is only one of 100 students to make it the 2011 National Geographic Bee in the state of Connecticut. She was one of only three students from Litchfield County. She is very excited to try and make back again next year to represent North Canaan.”
