Dealing with used motor oil
FALLS VILLAGE — The Board of Selectmen authorized an additional expenditure of $279.12 for disposal of used motor oil at the transfer station.
Last month First Selectman Pat Mechare asked selectmen Peter Lawson and Chuck Lewis to approve her signing of a $1,326.38 contract with Safety-Kleen, a company that handles hazardous wastes, after someone dumped a contaminant into the used motor oil collector at the transfer station.
Mechare said the contaminant was possibly antifreeze. The used motor oil is tested regularly for just this sort of contingency.
At the regular monthly meeting Monday, Dec. 13, Mechare reported that Safety-Kleen’s bill was for $1,605.50 because the tank turned out to be 550 gallons, not 400 as originally thought.
