Head-on collision on Route 4

SHARON — Five people were hospitalized after a head-on collision on Route 4 on the evening of Friday, Dec. 17. Two people were taken to Hartford Hospital by LifeStar helicopter. All were reported to be recovering well.

At press time for The Lakeville Journal, police were continuing to investigate what caused Nicholas Dzenutis, 19, of Cornwall Bridge to cross the double yellow line near the intersection of West Woods Road No. 1. The 2000 Subaru Impreza, registered to his father, Ralph Dzenutis, crashed into an eastbound 1999 Nissan Altima carrying a woman and three children. The crash occurred just before 6 p.m.

Both drivers and all the passengers were wearing seatbelts.

Driver Nicole Maccione, 29, of Clinton Corners, N.Y., was flown by helicopter from the scene to Hartford Hospital for a fractured ankle and knee, and a possible head injury.

Madison Maccione, 10, was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with possible head and back injuries.

Isabella Maccione, 2, was secured in a child safety seat and was taken to Sharon Hospital with bruising from the restraints.

Austin Wedge, 10, a neighbor of the Maccione’s, was taken to Sharon Hospital, and airlifted from there to Hartford Hospital with a possible back injury.

Dzenutis was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with a leg injury.
