Residents get into the holiday spirit

WINSTED — It was 36 degrees and very cold at the town Green on Friday night, Nov. 26, but that didn’t stop more than 100 residents from attending the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

As holiday tunes played from an MP3 player, hot chocolate and candy canes were served to merry residents.

The ceremony also included a visit from Santa Claus, who spread joy amongst the many children at the ceremony.

“This event is such a nice kickoff to the holidays, organizer and town Recreation Director Tricia Twomey said. “It helps to get everyone into the holiday spirit.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
