White Hart Inn closed
SALISBURY — The White Hart Inn has closed and is for sale, owner Scott Bok announced Tuesday, Nov. 2.
In a statement released that morning, Bok wrote, “We have owned the inn for over 12 years. While much of that time was a pleasure, it was also a heavy responsibility and time commitment to oversee a 24-hour, 364-day-a-year enterprise, despite having a young family and a full-time job 100 miles away.
“Unfortunately it would be impossible to retain staff and continue to operate while the property was for sale, so it seemed appropriate to close now.â€
The inn is listed with Best and Cavallaro, a real estate agency in Salisbury. Patricia Best said the asking price is $5 million.
Best added that while she was aware that running the inn was “burdensome,†she was surprised at the news.
“I’m already getting calls,†she said. Asked if someone local might take over, she replied, “Your guess is as good as mine.
“We’re reaching out to some restaurant people we know, and we’ll be advertising nationally on the Internet.
“But we don’t even have it up on our site yet.â€
Dan Bolognani at the Interlaken Inn in Lakeville said his hotel had picked up about a dozen overnight customers from The White Hart on Tuesday, as well as referrals for bookings for the coming weekend.
“It’s good for us but sad for the town,†he said.
The Interlaken also took over some events originally scheduled for The White Hart, including a breakfast and press event hosted by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation Wednesday, Nov. 3.
The White Hart underwent extensive interior and exterior renovations this year.
