NEW HARTFORD â€” Marion Dorothy â€œDottieâ€œ Child, 88, died Sept. 17, 2010.
Born in Flushing, N.Y., on Jan. 18, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Anna Charlotte Ey and Eugene Francis Carlson. She lived in Flushing until 1941, when she moved to Connecticut with her family.
She made her family home in New Hartford with her first husband, the late Frederick Mandel, where she resided until her death. She fully embraced her role as a housewife, making her and Fredâ€™s four children the center of her life. She was also a very active member of the North Congregational Church in New Hartford, where she met her second husband, the Rev. Graham Child.
Dottie and Graham enjoyed 28 years together, until Grahamâ€™s death in 1998, traveling and enjoying time with their children and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, James F. Mandel of Torrington and Timothy E. Mandel of New Hartford; a daughter, M. Deborah White of New Mexico; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Lindsley Carlson of New Hartford, Marie Seaman of Richfield, N.Y., and Adele E. Caritey of New Hartford.
In addition to her two husbands, Mrs. Child was predeceased by her siblings, William, Gustuf, Alfred, Thomas, Clifford, Harold and Charles Carlson and Anne Louise Tuzzo; and her beloved son, Stephen Mandel.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m., at North Congregational Church, New Hartford. Burial will be held privately at Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, New Hartford has care of the arrangements. Visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com.
