Fans wanted for Friday night HVRHS lights game

FALLS VILLAGE — Expect grit, guts and gumption on the gridiron as the Housatonic Valley Regional High School varsity football team opens its home season this Friday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m. against Canton.

The contest will be a rare night  game at the school, and coach Deron Bayer is hoping for a large crowd of fans.

“We are hoping to fill the hill with fans,” Bayer said. “We are also asking all supporters of the Mountaineers to wear blue to show their support. The Canton team always brings a lot of fans, so we’re hoping for a great game atmosphere that night.”

Bayer said Canton will offer a challenge to the Mountaineers.

“Canton is a team that is big and very physical,” he said. “They do not try to finesse you. They come right at you with a power football game that features dives and sweeps.

“We got out to an early lead last year, but they wore us down as the game went on. We will have to stop the run on defense and move the chains on offense in order to be successful.”
