Marie (Lundborg) Dean

LAKEVILLE — Marie L. Dean, 98, died May 3, 2010, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was born March 1, 1912, in New York City, the first daughter of Swedish immigrants Alma (Forsen) and George Lund-borg.

Marie spent her childhood in Dorchester and Wilmington, Mass. She was a graduate of Burdett College in Boston.

She married Erle M. Dean in Post Mills, Vt., on Sept. 21, 1935. They lived their entire married lives in Lakeville and in retirement spent summers in Orford, N.H. Erle died July 10, 1998. Marie has lived in Idaho Falls since 2003.

Marie was a loving mother and a kind and caring person who had many friends. She believed in healthy living and exercise. For as long as she was able she loved to swim, take long walks, and ride her exercise bicycles. She registered more than 6,000 miles on one of her bikes. She enjoyed travel, especially the trip she took with her brother to Sweden in 1995.

She was an active and devoted member of her church, serving for many years as a member of the Women’s Society for Christian Service of the Lakeville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eric M. and Julie Dean of Idaho Falls; a daughter, Linda D. Paradee of Montpelier, Vt., and Orford; three grandchildren, Bryan Dean of Idaho Falls, Sally D. Davis of South Jordan, Utah, and Alex Dean of Boise, Idaho; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Bradley Paradee of Westborough, Mass. and Kathryn P. Bovat of Swanton, Vt.; a niece, Joan Draheim of Fairlee, Vt.; a nephew, Robert Draheim of Wilmington, Mass; and a cousin, Olga Carlson of Sheffield.

She was predeceased by her husband; her brother, Allen Lundborg; and her sister, Hildur Draheim.

Marie will be buried in Orford. Memorial contributions may be made to Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service, PO Box 582, Salisbury, CT 06068.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
