Sexual assault, weapons charges filed
SALISBURY — Adam Kimmel, a cinematographer with a home in Salisbury, was arrested by state police last week following a criminal investigation that began after a complaint of inappropriate contact was filed March 22.
Connecticut State Police traveled to New York state to arrest Kimmel, 49, on April 20. He was charged with two counts of risk of injury, and sexual assault in the fourth degree, and held on a bond of $75,000.He was also charged with failing to register in Connecticut as a sex offender (police said he is a New York Registered Sex Offender) and held on an additional $25,000 bond. He was released on bail.
At the time of that arrest, state police said further arrests were pending. This week, on April 23, Kimmel was charged with criminal possesion of a firearm, illegal possession of fireworks and illegal possession of explosives. According to the news release from the police, he was arrested at the Troop L state police barracks in Litchfield. Salisbury is not one of the towns covered by Troop L (the town is in the jurisdiction of Troop B, in North Canaan). As of Monday evening, before The Lakeville Journal went to press, information was not yet available on whether he had met the $250,000 bond for the three charges.
National media have reported extensively on the story, saying that Kimmel is a well-known cinematographer who has worked on such Hollywood feature films as “Capote,†“Lars and the Real Girl†and “The Ref,†which stars Litchfield County resident Denis Leary. According to a film industry blog, theplaylist.blogspot.com, he was set to be the cinematographer for a film about Major League Baseball called “Moneyball.†The film is still in development; Brad Pitt is expected to star in it.
A search of the New York Sex Offenders Registry this week did not bring up Kimmel’s name or record. All records on the sexual assault case at Litchfield County Court are sealed. According to a news release from the police, the accused has several residences including one at 227 Taconic St. in Salisbury.
