Rec Commission looks for new uses for Town Farm

FALLS VILLAGE — At its regular monthly meeting Monday, March 8, the Board of Selectmen received the 2009 annual report and set Friday, March 26, for the annual town meeting (7 p.m., place to be determined).

The selectmen also appointed Suzanne Chinatti to the Recreation Commission on the recommendation of the Democratic Town Committee.

“I’m very pleased with the new members; they’re really stepping up,” Pat Mechare, first selectman, said.

The Recreation Commission has been somewhat dormant, but recently began recruiting new members and raising its profile.

Mechare read a letter dated Feb. 28 to the selectmen from the Recreation Commission saying it was forming a committee “to investigate the costs and procedures involved in the development of multipurpose sports fields on the Town Farm property.”

The committee’s focus could include potential users of the fields, their location within the property (also the site of the town pool), the necessary procedural and regulatory requirements associated with planning and construction, the approximate costs of planners or consultants and the approximate cost of construction for sports fields and any related facilities.

The members of the committee are Tim Downs, Mike DeMazza and Karl and Laura Munson.
