Selectmen appoint new P&Z members
WINSTED — The Winchester Board of Selectmen voted to appoint three town residents as members and alternates on the Planning and Zoning Commission Monday, April 20.
Selectman David Cappabianca nominated James Roberts, a former alternate member, to a position on the five-member board. Two alternates, Jason Keefe and Alesia Corso, were also nominated and appointed.
The Roberts and Keefe appointments were approved unanimously but Democratic Selectman Candy Perez voted against the appointment of Corso, resulting in a 6-1 vote.
The appointments come on the heels of the resignation of Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Robert Passini, who had been the subject of recent complaints surrounding an improperly zoned salon operated by his wife at their Platt Hill Road home.
Previous chairman George Closson was controversially removed by the Board of Selectmen’s Republican majority last April.
The Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet Monday, May 11, 7 p.m., at Town Hall to discuss and act upon appointing a new chairman.
