Ducky (Goodbody) Bancroft


SHARON — Ducky (Goodbody) Bancroft, 59, died peacefully on April 15, 2007, after a short illness with cancer. She was the wife of Harding Bancroft.

Mrs. Bancroft was born in New York on June 5, 1947, the daughter of the late Bambie (McKenna) and Garrett Goodbody. Raised in Madison, N.J., she was a resident of Sharon for 10 years. She graduated from Kent Place in New Jersey and George Washington University. Mrs. Bancroft was the Sharon Democratic registrar of voters and served as an alternate on the Sharon Planning and Zoning Board, and was on the Sharon/Salisbury Transfer Station Advisory Committee. She also volunteered at the Bargain Barn and the Health Care Auxiliary for the Tri-State Region. She chaired the Ladies Golf Committee at the Sharon Country Club.

Mrs. Bancroft is survived by her husband of 32 years, Harding Bancroft; her children, Kelly Bancroft of Great Barrington, Mass., and Alex Bancroft of Washington, D.C.; her stepdaughters, Dena Bancroft of Lenox, Mass., and Lisa Bancroft of Amsterdam, Holland; and six grandchildren. Her brother, Garrett Goodbody of Sharon, predeceased her in 2003.

The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

A service celebrating Mrs. Bancroft’s life will be held at the Congregational Church in Sharon at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 21. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Health Care Auxiliary, PO Box 1505, Sharon, CT 06069.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
