More charges, another arrest possible in Twin Lakes robbery

SALISBURY — State Police have brought additional charges against one of two men accused of the armed robbery of a local resident, and say more arrests are pending.Lucas Ieronimo, 23, of Torrington was appearing in Litchfield Judicial Court Feb. 22 when he was served a warrant as part of an ongoing investigation into a Jan. 9 incident.Ieronimo and Daniel Nyenhuis, 19, of New Hartford are alleged to have robbed Tyler Kilventon, 20, who was walking on Twin Lakes Road near his home at about 2 p.m. that day. Kilventon told police the men pointed a shotgun at him and demanded his wallet. He described their car, and told police they then headed east on Route 44.In East Canaan, a trooper spotted them. Nyenhuis, who was driving, accelerated and led police on a chase into Norfolk, where he was stopped about 4 miles later when another trooper arrived. The men were apprehended at gunpoint. Police reported at the time a shotgun and handgun were found in the Volkswagen Jetta. According to information just released, police say they also found a large amount of marijuana in the car. Ieronimo was charged last week with possession of more than a kilogram of marijuana and possession with intent to sell. An additional $10,000 bond was placed. Police also updated the Jan. 9 charges. Ieronimo was charged with carrying a handgun without a permit, having weapons in a vehicle, use of firearms in a felony, larceny, robbery, interfering with a police officer and assault.Nyenhuis was charged with reckless driving, disobeying the signal of a police officer/engaging in pursuit, carrying a handgun without a permit, use of a firearm in a felony, larceny, robbery and interfering with an officer.According to online court information, both men remain in custody.Ieronimo will appear next on March 27, when his case on the original robbery charges will move into the pre-trial phase. Nyenhuis will appear on March 6 to enter a plea. He has two other cases pending.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield
