Vets thanked with pasta and praise
MILLERTON — Engaging in an annual tradition to support and thank local veterans, State Senator Sue Serino (R-41) partnered with the Mental Health America (MHA) of Dutchess County Vet2Vet Program to host a free Veteran Appreciation Pasta Dinner in Millerton on Sunday, Oct. 17.
Served drive-thru style for safety reasons, veterans received a hearty serving of spaghetti, meatballs, salad, cake, bread and butter and a beverage of their choice.
Held from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Millerton American Legion Post 178, veterans were greeted warmly by Serino, Chair of the Dutchess County Legislature Gregg Pulver, MHA representatives and Dutchess County Dutchess County Veterans Services Director Adam Roche.
The meals were made possible through the PFC Joseph Dwyer Vet2Vet Program and were delivered right to the veterans’ car windows. Information about veteran services was also made available.
Roughly veterans registered for the meals. Another free Veterans Appreciation Pasta Dinner will be held on Sunday, Oct. 24, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the VFW Post 170 at 1 Violet Ave. in Poughkeepsie. So far, MHA representatives said 250 people have signed up for that event, but they are planning for 300 hungry diners.
