North East Community Center: A celebration of the Latin culture
MILLERTON — The North East Community Center (NECC) invited the local community to take part in a vibrant afternoon of culture at the Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday, Oct. 9.
Held from 2 to 4 p.m. at 51 South Center St., NECC brought a little extra flavor to Millerton with its annual community celebration, complete with live music by the band Sancocho, sweets and treats, flamenco dancing, bachata lessons and Dia De Los Muertos masks.
Masks were required and made available to ensure the community’s safety during the celebration in light of the COVID-19 health crisis, but there was an ice cream truck on site to keep things sweet. Those who were in attendance stayed cool with the icy treats, as the weather was still mild at the time of the festival.
NECC also organized a COVID-19 Vaccination and Information Pop-Up event that day, from noon to 4 p.m. at its site on South Center Street. It offered those who stopped by the Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer versions of the COVID-19 vaccine without needing an appointment.
