Irondale Schoolhouse set to open May 27; seasonal events planned

MILLERTON —  The Irondale Schoolhouse will open for the season on Saturday, May 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Built in 1858 and originally located in the hamlet of Irondale, the building was moved in 2013 by the Friends of the Irondale Schoolhouse to its present site at 16 Main St., at the head of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail.

Opening Day visitors are invited to celebrate with cookies and lemonade, take photographs and participate in a tour of the schoolhouse, ring the bell, write messages on the blackboard, and view a short video about the history of the schoolhouse.

Regularly open to the public 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through October, the schoolhouse will host a variety of events this season, including a schoolmarm visit in June; Beebee the Clown in July; an ice cream social on Saturday, Aug. 12; and a Halloween party Tuesday, Oct. 31.
