2021 Stissing Triathlon has record-breaking participation

PINE PLAINS — After a year without endurance competitions (other than and because of COVID-19), athletes in the region turned out in record numbers to take part in one of the first competitions of the year: the Stissing Triathlon in Pine Plains on Sunday, June 27.

Young Warriors celebrate end of year with Field Day

WEBUTUCK — No amount of heat or humidity could hamper the excitement among Webutuck Elementary School (WES) students and staff  as they were finally able to enjoy the school’s annual Field Day event on Monday, June 21.

PINE PLAINS — With the 2021 polo season now in swing, the Mashomack Polo Club at 48 Briarcliff Lane in Pine Plains invited spectators and challengers alike to come enjoy a busy weekend on the fields from Friday, June 18, to Sunday, June 20.

Bee-leave it

Joe and Sam are two long time bleacher buddies at Truist Park, the home field of the Atlanta Braves. Joe was sitting with his military grade binoculars, which he was using to watch the warm-ups when Sam arrived with a huge container of ballpark food.

“Whatcha got there? “ asked Joe.

Soap opera

I don’t watch regular soap operas; I don’t have to. If I want to get my fill of scandal, cheating and general chicanery, I just turn on the sports channel.

Pine Plains wrestlers hold fundraiser

PINE PLAINS — All while staying mindful of COVID-19 guidelines, the Pine Plains Wrestling Team found a way to keep moving forward and recruit interested wrestlers throughout the past year and a half.

Dust ’em up

Recently, I was watching a Mets/Diamondbacks game out in Phoenix when the Mets pitcher, Marcus Stroman, and one of the Rattlers got to jawing at each other. Now the Diamondbacks are what I call an HCT (Historically Challenged Team), and they were playing in a home ballpark that seemed to have more New York fans than Phoenix fans.

Dover Dragons savor a hot winning streak

DOVER PLAINS — The spirit of America’s favorite pastime has been alive and roaring on the Dover High School varsity baseball team this season as the team has been adding one victory after another to its record these past few weeks.

Dance, dance, dance

NEW YORK — Commencing the month of June with an evening of original dance, Mark DeGarmo Dance invited spectators young and old to tune in for the season finale of Mark DeGarmo Dance’s 2020-21 Virtual Salon Performance Series season on Thursday, June 3.
