SHARON, Conn. — The year of COVID-19 has seen communities scramble to host events while adhering to state guidelines and restrictions, such as the Sharon Sprint Triathlon, which was held in August. The newest modified town traditions are the Sharon Classic Road Race and the Kent Pumpkin Run, both of which have gone virtual for 2020.

Those who know me know that I can be a bit stubborn about changing my mind — at least in important matters, like wives, children and the designated hitter. I have been a sworn enemy of that last thing for a good 50 years, but I may be on the edge of being converted.

MILLBROOK — Paula Moore had a satisfying career showing horses, something that she loved to do. But accompanying her husband to a sporting clays shooting program one day eventually changed her life, and her career, which is why she is now the newest shooting instructor at Orvis Sandanona shooting grounds in Millbrook.

Tom Seaver’s recent passing has occasioned a great outpouring of positive comment and remembrance about his career as well as his impact on the game, and deservedly so.

Perhaps you’ve heard about the dust up following Fernando Tatis Jr.’s grand slam in the eighth inning with a seven run lead. He missed the “take” sign on a 3 and 0 count, the pitcher grooved one, and Tatis hit it out.

Some people, including both managers, called, “Foul! He violated one of the unwritten rules!”

MILLERTON — Between the sound of children’s laughter and the sight of families coming out to enjoy a sunny day at the park, the playground at Eddie Collins Memorial Field, located at 5991 Route 22, recently opened after being closed these last few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

PINE PLAINS — Having anticipated their participation in an intense competition this summer to raise money for a worthwhile cause, athletes from the local area and beyond were disappointed to learn that the Stissing Triathlon, scheduled for Sunday, June 28, was canceled as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

The gist of fishing right now is: There are three brook trout streams in nearby Conneciticut, the Blackberry and the Furnace Brook in North Canaan and the Housatonic, all within 20 miles of Lakeville (staying in-state).
