Pine Plains-Rhinebeck football overwhelms Onteora, 40-14

PINE PLAINS — Kicking off the month of October with a big win, the Pine Plains-Rhinebeck varsity football team celebrated a major victory against Onteora during the team’s Senior Game on Friday, Oct. 1.

At 7 p.m., the teams faced off on the football field behind Stissing Mountain Junior/Senior High School after recognizing its graduating athletes.

As told by Stissing Mountain High School Athletic Director and Varsity Football Coach Rob Scott, Pine Plains-Rhinebeck was led by Andrew Speedling with 125 yards rushing and 65 yards receiving.

On top of that, Andrew led the Bombers defensively with eight tackles and scored a one-yard touchdown run.

Also competing for Pine Plains-Rhinebeck, Sid Stracher rushed for 85 yards, scored two touchdowns and made six tackles while Gio Ramirez had 63 yards receiving and scored on a 10-yard touchdown catch.

Competing alongside the Pine Plains-Rhinebeck team, Richie Lamping rushed for 62 yards, scored on a five-yard touchdown run and threw 115 yards on six completions.

Meanwhile, Noah Curtis blocked a punt and Logan Lydon recovered the ball and ran it in for a touchdown for Pine Plains-Rhinebeck. Logan also made two sacks for the Bombers’ team.

Pine Plains-Rhinebeck was declared the victor with the high score of 40-14 over Onteora.

Amenia Town Board continues cannabis “opt-in” discussion

AMENIA — Preliminary discussion over whether or not the town will “opt in” to state regulations that guide the opening and operation of a local cannabis dispensary continued at the regular meeting of the Town Board on Thursday, March 21.

Town Supervisor Leo Blackman introduced the discussion, noting that to move ahead on zoning questions related to location of a dispensary, the board might need the services of a town planner.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
