Bombers face defeat in final game: Pine Plains/Rhinebeck football team ends season
PINE PLAINS — Determined not to end the 2021-22 athletic season without a fight, the Pine Plains/Rhinebeck varsity football team battled Spackenkill in the team’s last game of the season on Friday, Oct. 22.
While the team from Stissing Mountain High School and their compatriots in Rhinebeck may not have won the contest, the players certainly gave it their all and their coach said they should be proud of their effort in the high-scoring game that night and throughout the season.
The Bombers faced off against the Spackenkill Spartans at 7 p.m. on the football field behind Stissing Mountain Junior/Senior High School.
The Bombers were led on the field by Sid Stracher with 218 yards rushing and three touchdowns on two runs of 20 yards and one run of 70 yards. Sid also caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Bombers teammate Richie Lamping.
Leading the Bombers on defense, Logan Lydon made seven tackles. His teammate, Liam Bower, also made seven tackles for the Bombers while Sid and Jeremy Dolansky made six tackles each.
“Our kids battled tonight and hung in tough against an excellent Spackenkill football team,” said Pine Plains Football Coach and Athletic Director Rob Scott.
Following a fierce battle on the football field, the Stissing Mountain Bombers lost to the Spackenkill Spartans with a final score of 46-26.
