Local governments deal with COVID-19 pandemic

HARLEM VALLEY — Town and Village Halls around the region are shut down as officials deal with COVID-19. Officials are making arrangements so residents can stay in touch with the local departments while limiting their exposure to coronavirus.


Beginning Monday, March 16, Amenia Town Hall is closed to the public until further notice. Additionally, all Town Hall events have been canceled as a result of the pandemic. Town Hall hours are limited to appointment only.

The Ancram Town Hall is closed to the public until further notice, as are the Ancram Town Court and the Ancram Town Garage. Ancram town Supervisor Art Bassin said town employees have been encouraged to work from home and send in their work. Other town employees — such as the supervisor, the town clerk, the Building Department and the Zoning Department — will continue working at reduced hours.

Residents looking to drop off materials with a town official are advised to put them in the mailbox on the far edge of the Town Hall parking lot.

As of noon on Thursday, March 19, Copake Town Hall is closed until further notice, as is the Copake Highway Garage.

Residents can continue communicating with Copake town staff via telephone, email and postal mail. All letters and documents can be left in the Copake Town Hall drop box (located outside the building’s front door), which will be checked every weekday and Saturday. All permits issued by Copake Building Inspector Lee Heim will be done remotely.

The Transfer Station (located at 768 County Route 7A) will be open during its regular hours of operation on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Starting Monday, March 23, all offices in the town of Dover are closed to the public until further notice. To conduct business with Dover officials, residents should call Dover Town Hall or email the offices during normal business hours. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, both Hillsdale Town Hall and the Hillsdale Town Garage are closed to the public. No walk-in traffic is permitted at Hillsdale Town Hall at this time.

Town Hall staff members will continue to work and can be reached via email, phone or postal mail. Likewise, the Hillsdale Highway Department will be working a regular schedule, but taking precautions as advised by New York state.

Residents may consult the town directory listed on www.hillsdaleny.com for specific offices. Residents may also use the mail slot at the front door of Hillsdale Town Hall to drop off any materials.

Millerton/North East

The village of Millerton offices are closed until further notice in response to the pandemic. Residents can call Village Hall at 518-789-4401 during regular business hours on Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. The Building Department hours will operate on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Residents may also email Clerk@villageofmillerton.net.

Both North East Town Hall and the Town of North East Court are closed until further notice. Though some of the town staff will be present at Town Hall as needed to keep town business running, residents with urgent town business are advised to call or email the appropriate official instead of visiting Town Hall.

Pine Plains

As of Monday, March 16, Pine Plains Town Hall is closed to the public, though the town supervisor, secretary to the supervisor and town clerk are still working at the building, which will remain locked to the public.

Though the property will remain open for recycling and brush drop off, the Pine Plains Highway Department will also be closed until further notice. Residents can call 518-398-6662 to address their highway related concerns. Pine Plains Highway Superintendent Heather Emerich can also be reached at her cell phone at 518-965-1876.

At this time, Millbrook Village Hall is closed to the public.

Residents are encouraged to reach out to Millbrook officials via email rather than by telephone. They may also dial 845-677-3939, ext. 2 if they feel they need to call to get the most effective response.
