Adults who stay well-hydrated appear to be healthier, develop fewer chronic conditions such as heart and lung disease, and live longer than those who may not get sufficient fluids, according to a National Institutes of Health study released this month.

What is more basic to the ability of humans to thrive than having a place to live? Maybe good health, which is always a variable. But a home is something that is more controllable if society takes it seriously for all of its members.

While many professions have had unique challenges during the pandemic, teaching is one that all of us should pay close attention to now. It has become harder and harder to recruit new people to teach (though Region One has been fortunate to find many new teachers for the 2022-23 school year).
