There’s no doubt that this year, the year of COVID-19, the holidays will be tough for most families in America. After all, thanks to the pandemic, the “seasonally adjusted” number of unemployed workers in the U.S. in September of 2020 was 12.5 million, compared to 5.75 million in September of 2019.

Let’s just lay it on the line: We are concerned, as Americans will be heading to the polls Nov. 3 to elect their next president, because they have to choose between two imperfect candidates, Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic former Vice President Joseph Biden. As promised last week, here is more on the way this newspaper will continue to find ways to maintain a viable business model for local journalism. Wednesday, Sept. 30, should be marked on every American’s calendar. That’s because Wednesday, Sept. 30, is the last day Americans have to complete the 2020 U.S. Census — a document crucial to determining how billions of dollars in federal funding will make their way into our communities each year for the next decade.

Thus far, 2020 has been quite a year — and believe us, there’s still more to come (does Tuesday, Nov. 3, better known as Election Day, ring a bell?).
