Recreation Department hosts Senior Luncheon

MILLBROOK — Pleasant weather and the delicious aroma of food put happy smiles on the faces of 19 seniors at the annual luncheon provided by the Town of Washington Recreation Department on Friday, Oct. 8, at the Guertin Gym at Village Hall on Merritt Avenue in Millbrook.

Tables were set with colorful pastel tablecloths, and the food was catered by Paul Iannucci, owner of Nooch’s Pub & Grill on Church Street in Millbrook and the Fireside BBQ & Grill in nearby Salt Point, and included chicken, penne a la vodka, salad, green beans and a seasonal apple cobbler for dessert. There were also cold beverages to drink as seniors caught up with friends.

Usually held at the Town Park, this year it was held at the gym because the Recreation Department hosted a Family Bingo Night there the same evening.

Several raffle winners received gifts, which added to the festivities. Everyone appeared to be pleased with the food, the prizes and the general conviviality.

Local seniors look forward to the event each year, and are grateful to the Town of Washington Recreation Department for keeping them in mind.

Perhaps next year, if the COVID pandemic continues to decline, the event will be bigger and better than ever. All the seniors on hand this year, though, agreed that the festivities this year were just perfect as they were.

The Recreation Department sponsors several events each year for local residents, young and old alike. On Saturday, Oct. 30, it will once again hold the annual Trunk or Treating event at the Town Park in Mabbettsville. Costumed youngsters are encouraged to stop by with their parents and go trunk to treating from all of the parked decorated cars as area residents hand out Halloween candy. The Trunk or Treat will be held at noon. Children must bring their own treat bags.

For those who wish to decorate their cars at the park, they can register at the Rec Department’s website, www.washingtonny.myrec.com. Following the event at noon, there will be Pumpkin Painting event. Participants should bring their own pumpkins, but art supplies will be provided, as will donuts and apple cider.

For more information or to register for any of these holiday events or any others, or for information on sports programs, go to rec.director@washingtonrec.org or call 845-677-3419, ext. 6.
