Lime Rock Park & Fitch's - a sporting weekend
MILLBROOK — Millbrook resident Rob Dyson’s racing team will roar around their home track at Lime Rock Park this weekend, at the Northeast Grand Prix on Saturday, July 24.
This race is the second of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron. Last year the team won the LMP2 race there, giving Mazda its first prototype win of 2009. Lime Rock was also the site of the first professional race win for Dyson Racing in 1985 with Rob Dyson and Drake Olson in their Porsche 962.
“Lime Rock is a touchstone for Dyson Racing,†commented Chris Dyson. “From Rob running his 1974 Datsun there to our celebrating our 25th anniversary in professional racing at the track in 2008, to our win last year, Lime Rock personifies the long-term commitment and passion for racing that has been our core from day one. We will leave here knowing that hard work ultimately wins in racing.â€
From wheels to hooves
At a slower pace in a bucolic setting, the annual Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials will be held at the farm of Fernanda Kellogg and her husband, Kirk Henckels, in Mabbettsville on Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25. There will be dressage, stadium jumping and cross-country contests with more than 200 entrants competing for Tiffany silver cups.
There will also be a collectible car display, a spectator’s lunch to benefit the Millbrook Rescue Squad, food and more than 30 specialty shops at Fitch’s market, offering custom saddles to jewelry. Everyone is welcome to observe and enjoy, and there are no entrance fees.
