FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s softball team stepped up to the plate and emerged with a 17-2 victory over Gilbert High School on April 6, earning their first win of the season with a decisive finish over the Yellowjackets.
FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School baseball got its first win of the 2023 season on April 6, beating the Gilbert Yellowjackets 7-2. The Mountaineers looked to be in good form in the early days of the season.

KENT — The Kent School Lions’ varsity baseball team lost 11-1 in their home opener against the Brunswick School Bruins on Friday, March 31. Kent struggled to shake off the winter jitters in this non-league game at G. Foster Sanford Field.
LAKEVILLE — The Hotchkiss School’s girls varsity tennis team began their season with a scrimmage against Millbrook School on Wednesday, March 29. Hotchkiss’ players outperformed their Millbrook counterparts across the board and didn’t drop a set, pulling off a clean sweep of 19-0.
The Limestone Trout Club in East Canaan opened for the season Saturday, April 1, and in true April Fool’s fashion, it poured rain in the morning, only to clear up in the afternoon. Joe Cieslowski, also of East Canaan, got his first couple of trout of 2023 using his favorite fly, the Green Weenie.
The transition between winter and spring is a tough time for this pescador.
Every time it looks like the planets will align, there’s some weather, like the recent foot or so of snow.
I did take a whack at Housatonic in the no man’s land between the power station in Falls Village and the falls the day after the snowstorm.
SALISBURY — On Saturday, March 25, the Salisbury School Crimson Knights hosted a scrimmage against the Albany Academy Cadets to start lacrosse season. Salisbury put down a decisive performance with a 25-6 victory.
FALLS VILLAGE — As winter thaws and snow melts around the Northwest Corner, Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s athletes have begun warming up as well. The Mountaineers are back with a full menu of spring sports.
