Dog days come early to anglers

CORNWALL — The dog days are upon us, a lot sooner than usual.

The authorities have cut the flow into the West Branch of the Farmington River to a cold but meager 75 cubic feet per second, which means if you head over there prepare for long leaders and fine tippets.

Who is that cycling, sprinting barefoot triathlete?

SHARON — If you’ve seen an athlete cycling on local roads, dropping his bicycle, helmet and shoes at the side of the Housatonic Valley Regional High School track or other local soccer fields, and then sprinting barefoot, and then getting back on his bike to do it again, then you’ve seen local TeamUSA member Doug Landau training for his next race

FALLS VILLAGE — From earning a scholarship to Boston College for soccer, to joining the 1,000 point club in high school basketball, her prolific success with track and field and graduating from Housatonc Valley Regional High School, Sydney Segalla has had a lot of opportunities to celebrate of late.

Champs

The Salisbury School lacrosse team beat The Taft School, 10-5, on Tuesday, May 31, to win the Geico national high school lacrosse championship at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. The Crimson Knights had a regular season record of 11-3 and won both their games in the tournament.

Entering the big bend

Drivers in the international GT class practiced on Friday, May 27, before qualifying  for the race at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, where the Trans Am Memorial Day Classic schedule featured  several race groups, a car show and crowds of race fans.
