NEW PRESTON — Sunny skies greeted the record number of runners who came to Lake Waramaug for the Polar Bear Run on Sunday, Feb. 27.
After last year’s event was canceled, 626 runners were eager to race the 7.6 mile Lake Waramaug course again.
SALISBURY — Willie Hallihan of the Salisbury Winter Sports Association said on Sunday, Feb. 20, that “all systems are go” for the Junior Nationals Nordic Combined competition this weekend in Salisbury and at Mohawk Mountain Ski Area in Cornwall.

SALISBURY — For a small rural town, Salisbury has had a large number of participants in winter and summer Olympics.
SALISBURY — A team of junior jumpers representing the Salisbury Winter Sports Association (SWSA) braved stormy and frigid temperatures to compete in the Empire Games last weekend in Lake Placid, N.Y.
With seven jumpers, SWSA fielded the second largest team besides the Lake Placid group.

FALLS VILLAGE —Hanging in the Housatonic Valley Regional High School (HVRHS) gymnasium is a plaque that represents the elite 1,000 Point Club. In the 83 years of school history, only 10 HVRHS athletes have achieved this, the latest being senior Sydney Segalla.

On Tuesday evening, Jan. 25, at home in Falls Village, Housatonic Valley Regional High School varsity boys basketball played hard against rival Northwestern Regional High School from Winsted, but came up short with a 70-59 loss.
Casting about for a suitable topic for the Bleak Mid-Winter Edition of Tangled Lines, I decided it is far too early to write the traditional “tackle fondling” column.
And because it has not been very good fishing weather, I can’t regale the customers with timely tales of angling derring-do.
SALISBURY —The Salisbury Redhawks Bantam hockey co-ed team for 13 and 14 year olds won the Christmas Classic Tournament in Northford with a 3-2 victory over the Greater New Haven Warriors on Dec. 30.
The game ended in a shoot-out with goals from Hunter Conklin and Christian Carrier.
Wet.
That’s the word to describe the fishing scene in 2022.
May The spring stocking of the Housatonic took place when the river was pretty high. Terrific if you’re in a boat. Us perambulators had to bide our time and wait for a more reasonable flow. And wait, and wait, and wait.
