Middle school sports plan moving forward
FALLS VILLAGE — The Region One School District Middle School Athletics and Activities Committee met online Wednesday, June 23, and received an update from Athletic Director Anne MacNeil.
MacNeil said she has received applications for head coaches for cross-country and boys soccer. There are openings for assistant coaches for boys and girls soccer and cross-country.
MacNeil said she is working on scheduling games and meets for the new combined Region One middle school teams.
“The difficulty is other schools’ uncertainty” as to the status of their athletic programs in the fall.
MacNeil said that online registration for middle school sports will be ready to go this week, and she will send an email to middle school students and parents alerting them.
She said she plans to hold a meeting or meetings with parents and students prior to the start of the 2021-22 school year.
“I’d rather not do Zoom,” she said, referring to online meetings. “I’d rather to do it at the high school or go to each school.”
She said perhaps the meeting or meetings could be recorded and made available to parents and students who can’t or don’t wish to attend an in-person meeting.
The committee also approved the middle school sports handbook.
