One-act plays during “Weekend in Norfolk”
NORFOLK — Two short one-act plays written and directed by Norfolk residents Marinell Crippen and Sara Heller, and cast entirely with Norfolk residents, were performed at the Norfolk Library during the Weekend in Norfolk activities Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26.
“Barren” by Sara Heller is the story of a woman’s choice to be a surrogate. It is a reflection on how this woman’s complicated relationship with her own mother contributed to this choice and how the loving but brief relationships brought forth by the surrogacy changed her life forever.
“Let’s Play” by Marinell Crippen is set in the early 1970’s. It’s about young girls’ friendships as they navigate difficult situations. These kids are funny, honest, playful, and sometimes tough in the ways they interact with each other.
