Kent School revives equine tradition

KENT — Nearly two decades ago the Grand Prix field at The Kent School was a proving ground for area riders. Over the years it has been supplanted by newer venues to the west and south. Now, this Saturday, Sept. 17, marks the return of a classic show jumping competition here with the Grand Prix field taking center stage. The Double Clear Jumper Show will be held at the Kent School stables at the top of Skiff Mountain Road in Kent. The school hosts USEA Area 1 horse trials in the spring and fall, but this will be the first time there has been an open horse show in more than 15 years.Three-time Olympian Michael Page is the head instructor of the riding program at Kent and he will be overseeing the show with event organizer Ray Denis. The show will have three competitions rings. The show is being sponsored by Stephen Blauner and Bonnie Stedt, both of Pine Plains; by Lisa Cox, an eventing and dressage judge from Pennsylvania; and by Salisbury Bank & Trust. Water main cleaning in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN – Aquarion Water Company today announced a water main cleaning project in the company’s North Canaan system. Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.

Cabaret comes to St. Andrew's in Kent

Music in the Nave will again tap into local talent April 6 at 7 p.m. when its features George Potts in an intimate cabaret concert in the St. Andrew’s Church parish house.

Pott is a well-known figure in the community, both through his presence in the perennially popular Fife ‘n Drum, the restaurant started by his father-in-law, renowned pianist Dolph Trayman, and through his own career as a folk musician.
