Kenneth Towne 'KT' Whitman II

NORTH CANAAN — Kenneth Towne “KTâ€� Whitman II, 22, of 41 Reed St. died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, from injuries sustained in an automobile crash on Route 272 in Norfolk.  

KT was born Dec. 21, 1985, in Sharon, son of Kenneth Whitman of Ancram and Sindee (Kline) Culleton of Millerton.

KT was working as a landscaper for Joe Carroll in North Canaan.  He graduated from North Canaan Elementary School and Housatonic Valley Regional High School. He was a member of the class of 2003.  While at the high school, KT nurtured his love of music. He was an accomplished drummer, and performed in the band Beneath It All.   While not drumming, KT found time to enjoy his friends, cars and surfing on his computer.

In addition to his mother and father, KT leaves behind his sister, Sarah Whitman of Lakeville; his stepfather, Clint Culleton of Millerton; his paternal grandmother, with whom he lived, Irene Whitman of North Canaan; his uncle, Lawrence Whitman of Sharon; and his aunts, Leslie and Emily Whitman, both of North Canaan, and Norma Jean Winslow of Punta Gorda, Fla.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery, Sand Road, North Canaan.

Calling hours will be at the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home, 118 Main St., North Canaan, on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
