Housy soccer's winning season

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School boys soccer team’s season ended with a loss to Old Lyme in the third round of the state tournament.

Including two wins in the tournament over Windsor Locks and Wamogo, and the loss in tournament play, their final overall record was 12-5-2. This record gives the 2010 team the second most wins in a season by a Housatonic boys soccer team.

At the Berkshire League All-Star Meeting, the following boys earned end of the season recognition: Reilly Lynch and Andrew Hoffmann earned First Team All-League; Griffin Randall earned a spot on the second team; and Wilson Terrall, Steven Wingard, Myles Clohessy, RJ Thompson, Willy Yahn and John Hare received Honorable Mention recognition.

Seniors who provided the valuable senior leadership for the program are: Jacob Paviol, Will Parker, Andrew Hoffmann (captain), Nadav Mortman, Corey Christensen, Griffin Randall (captain), Reilly Lynch (captain), Dominic Sanchez and Matt Walker. All of them will be missed for their contribution to a great season.

The junior varsity team also had a tremendous season, ending with an 11-3-2 record.

The records of both teams can be attributed to hard work by the players in and out of season, but also the community. Recreation programs, elementary school teams, travel team programs, volunteer coaches who put time and effort in giving players a chance to play at all levels, parents getting their sons to games over the years and the fans who came out to cheer them on have all contributed to a great and memorable season for the  2010 Housatonic boys soccer team.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
