Housatonic student of the week - Cassie Worthington
The Lakeville Journal congratulates the honorees of the student of the week program at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. This week’s student portrait was taken by HVRHS 11th-grader Caroline Sullivan.
There is a particular cast of eye that betrays a thoughtful, analytical mind, and when one meets this week’s Student of the Week, senior Cassie Worthington, it is clear from the look in her eyes that her mind rarely rests. The story of her intellectual development demonstrates the incredible journey of her active mind.
Cassie has been around stables for a long time as both a competitive rider and as a worker, which originally led her to investigate a career in veterinary science.
The matter of euthanasia, however, caused Cassie to reevaluate that choice. She found she was particularly interested in the impact of that act on the humans who were obligated to perform it.
Consequently, she now hopes to pursue a degree in psychology at one of the highly competitive schools in the New England or Mid-Atlantic region.
Her understanding of psychology pays dividends in her leadership roles here at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. She is the president of the senior class and a leader of several clubs and organizations, including several musical organizations to which she belongs. Cassie is involved with Chorus, Jazz Choir and Sweethearts, and she also lends her talents to several organizations concerned with human rights.
Given Cassie’s empathetic nature, it is no surprise that she is a champion of the disenfranchised, and that tenderness often extends to her fellow classmates here at HVRHS. Cassie’s caring example is truly contagious, and it helps transform our school into a community.
