Housatonic girls soccer games wrapup

FALLS VILLAGE — On Tuesday, Sept. 21, the girls soccer team had an away game against Litchfield. The game was scoreless for most of the first half but Litchfield scored two late goals to take a 2-0 halftime lead. They then put the game out of reach in the second half for a 5-0 win.

On Thursday, Sept. 23, Housy played its first home game of the season. The opponent was Berkshire League powerhouse Gilbert. In the most exciting game of the young season, Housy came away with a 1-1 tie.

Gilbert scored first in the first half but Housy’s Brianna Ongley, with an assist from Kylie Jacobs, scored with 4 minutes left in the half.

Neither team scored after that. Housy had a few great opportunities to score but could not hit the back of the net. The defense, led by freshman goalie Jill Cannon, played its best game of the year.

The junior varsity lost to Litchfield 4-0 but defeated Gilbert 5-2.

Due to the poor weather, the team had only one game last week. On Wednesday, Sept. 29, the team traveled to Terryville and for the second game in a row the team went into overtime.

Housatonic’s co-captain, Genevieve Terrall, with an assist from Kylie Jacobs, scored two minutes into the overtime to give the team a hard fought 2-1 victory.

Cassidy Hammond, with an assist from Jacobs, scored Housy’s first goal of the game. Terryville scored with two minutes left to send the game into overtime.

Freshman goalie Jill Cannon led the defense to its first win of the season. The team’s record is 1-3-1. The junior varsity had no games last week.
