SALISBURY — Geoffrey Douglas Belter, 33, of Campbell, Calif., died Aug. 20, 2014, in a tragic scuba diving accident.Geoff was born in Flagstaff, Ariz., on April 28, 1981, to Jo Ellen (Harvey) and Willis “Hoot” Belter Jr. of Salisbury.Geoff is survived by his wife, Sacha (Greene) Belter.Geoff attended Salisbury Central School and graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1999. Before moving to Boulder, Colo., Geoff graduated from Clarkson University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering. In Boulder, between 2007 and 2012, Geoff returned to school at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he earned a master’s degree in computer science and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in electrical engineering. Geoff worked for Apple in Cupertino, Calif., at the time of his death, beginning his career first as an intern in May 2009 and then as a software engineer beginning in April 2012. While living in Boulder, Geoff worked for the Eldorado Wall Company, a climbing-wall building company and met his wife, Sacha. Surrounded by family and friends, Geoff and Sacha married in Boulder in September 2012. Geoff loved life and lived it to its fullest. He loved the outdoors — skiing, rock climbing, hiking, scuba diving and much more. When not outdoors, Geoff loved building with Legos, walking to Campbell’s Farmers Market, using his Kitchen Aid mixer (fondly nicknamed his kitchen tractor) and cooking with Sacha. Some of Geoff’s fondest times were spent in the company of his family including his grandparents, many cousins — some of whom were known as The Cousins — his aunts, uncles and two nieces.In addition to his wife, Geoff is survived by his parents; his brother, Daniel, and his wife Monica, and their two daughters, Mia and Aria, of Norwalk, Conn.; his sister, Abigail, of Jersey City, N.J.; many aunts, uncles and cousins; his grandparents, Ruth (Miner) Belter of Lakeville and Betty Jo (Huskison) and Milton Harvey of Phoenix, Ariz. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Willis H. Belter Sr. A celebration of Geoff’s life will be held on the family property at Farnam and Salmon Kill roads on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 1 to 5 p.m.
