Father, son arrested for liquor theft

NORTH CANAAN — A father and son were arrested March 10, shortly after one of them was accused of stealing a bottle of liquor from State Line Package Store.State Police converged at the Stop & Shop Plaza on East Main Street (Route 44) at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. Apparently someone told police they recognized the two men, Michael Keefner, 58, and Shawn Keefner, 22, residents of Railroad Street in North Canaan. Troopers headed to their apartment and arrested them a short time later.Michael Keefner was charged with interfering with police. Bond was set at $1,500. Shawn Keefner was charged with larceny and interfering with police. Bond was set at $2,000.They are to appear in Bantam Superior Court March 26.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
