FALLS VILLAGE — Several awards were presented on Monday, May 29, at The Memorial Day ceremony held on the town green in Falls Village. At a gathering led by First Selectman Henry Todd, five individuals were recognized for their contributions to the town.
FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School sophomore Mia Dodge placed first overall in the Berkshire League Festival girls heptathlon. The two-day event began in Thomaston on Tuesday, May 23 and concluded at HVRHS on Wednesday, May 24.
FALLS VILLAGE — A group of five students from Housatonic Valley Regional High School finished second at the Connecticut Geographic Challenge, held at the University of Connecticut on May 24. The theme of this year’s event was “Borders: Security and Conflict.”
FALLS VILLAGE — The Eleanor Roosevelt Chapter of the National Honor Society at Housatonic Valley Regional High School welcomed 19 new members in a ceremony held at the school Thursday, May 25.
FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s Agriculture Education program hosted their annual open house on May 17 and 18. The two-day event featured presentations of the students’ Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) projects along with activities and information in the Ag-Ed wing of the high school.
FALLS VILLAGE — Margery Metzger had been a social worker and mediator in her professional career, and about five years ago began a life of retirement in Pittsfield, Mass.
During a book talk on Saturday, May 6 at the David M. Hunt Library, Metzger talked to a small group about her second career: true crime writer.
FALLS VILLAGE — Jandi Hanna, President of the Falls Village Housing Trust, said on Sunday, May 14 that the trust had just completed a deal to buy 17-21 Miner St. in Falls Village. The property has five apartments in two buildings.
Hanna said the purpose of buying the property is to keep it as “organic affordable housing.”
FALLS VILLAGE — Ashley Holmes is the new Supervisor, of Special Education in Region One.
On May 1, the Region One Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Holmes.
FALLS VILLAGE — The $17 million Region One budget passed at a referendum vote May 2, by 364 yes votes to 80 no votes in the six Region One towns.
In Cornwall, the vote was 70 yes votes to 7 no votes. In Falls Village, the tally was 30-7.
Kent passed the budget 49-20, Salisbury 134 to 7, and Sharon 43-6.
